Welcome to EYFS!

Welcome to Reception

During the first few weeks of Reception, our priority is to make our children feel happy and safe in their new environment. We spend lots of quality time getting to know them and supporting them to become familiar with their new peers and surroundings. Together, we will build on their pre-school and home experiences and they will take part in a range of multi-sensory activities both of our inside and outside learning environments.

Learning opportunities are usually play based and involve following the childtren's interests, wants and needs. This allows us to provide individual learning for each child. We also take part in lots of practical activities such as Forest School, sensory circuits and physical development activities. Alongside this, we have daily phonics, maths, reading and topic sessions.

The curriculum in Reception is based on a set of Early Learning Goals. Our environment is carefully planned for to ensure that we offer a broad range of experiences that cater for the needs of all learners. There are seven areas of learning.

The 3 Prime Areas are:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

The 4 Specific Areas:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design
