This term, children in Year 5 will be learning about a wide range of exciting topics across the curriculum.

Reading

  • Exploring Street Child with a focus on inference and retrieval skills.

  • Reading and learning from non-fiction texts about the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons.

Writing

  • Developing skills in persuasive writing.

  • Writing to entertain, using Street Child as inspiration.

  • Using Anglo-Saxon and Viking non-fiction texts as a stimulus for writing.

Maths

  • Place Value up to 1 million.

  • Addition and subtraction strategies and problem solving.

Science

  • Studying the life cycles of living things.

History

  • Investigating the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings.

Geography

  • Learning about the Amazon Rainforest and its importance to our world.

PSHE

  • Exploring the theme of Staying Safe.

RE

  • Learning about religious diversity in our region.

Music

  • Listening, appraising and performing “Living on a Prayer”.
