Music

Our Music Program
At the heart of our music education is Charanga Musical School, an award-winning primary music resource used by over 57% of UK primary schools. This multi-award-winning program provides our teachers with week-by-week schemes of work and lesson plans that align perfectly with the National Curriculum for Music.
Charanga offers our pupils a rich and diverse musical experience through its customisable library of songs, ready-made lessons and interactive resources. The program is designed to engage and inspire pupils to develop their love of music and their talent as musicians, whilst increasing their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.
Instrumental Learning
We believe that hands-on experience with instruments is crucial for musical development. Throughout their time with us, pupils have the opportunity to learn and play a variety of instruments, including:
Recorders - helping pupils develop breath control and finger coordination
Ukuleles - introducing string instruments in an accessible way
Glockenspiels - developing understanding of pitch and rhythm through percussion
These instruments are integrated into our Charanga lessons, where pupils follow a sound-before-symbol approach, gradually building their understanding of musical notation whilst enjoying practical music-making.
Daily Singing
Music extends beyond our dedicated music lessons. We supplement our Charanga program with daily singing at the start and end of assemblies. Our carefully selected repertoire includes songs from a diverse range of cultures and time periods, exposing pupils to the rich tapestry of global musical traditions. This daily practice not only develops vocal skills but also builds community spirit and cultural awareness throughout the school.
Supporting All Learners
One of the strengths of the Charanga program is its accessibility for both music specialists and generalist teachers. The platform includes support for assessment, special needs education and personalised learning, ensuring that every child can access and enjoy music education at their own level.
Through this comprehensive approach to music education, we aim to nurture confident, creative young musicians who appreciate the power of music to enrich their lives and the lives of others.
