Autumn Term
This term we will be leanring about
English: In English this term, will be covering Iron Man by Ted Hughes and covering a range of writing genres including - character descriptions, recounts and narratives - alongside associated skills in spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Reading: In reading lessons, we will be exploring key skills linkled to vocabulary, retrieval and inference using a range of fiction and non-fiction texts.
Mathematics: Over the course of this term, children will be exploring and developing their understanding of 'place value' as well as core calculation skills linked to addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Science: During the autumn term chidlren will explore the concept of electricity through a range of knowledge-based and practical learning as well as developing thier understanding of the three states of matter - solids, liquids and gases.
History: Our study in history over the first half term will take the children on journey to explore their local heritage by looking at the importance of coal and coal mining.
RE: In the first term children will develop their understanding of Christianity through exploring the question - What is the Bible and why it is important? - before moving on to consider the meaning of Christmas.
Geography: Work in geography during the first half term will give children the opportuntiy to develop their knowledge and understanding of the British Isles and its diverse regions.
PE: Children will take part in PE lessons every Thursday during the term. During each session, children will be given the opportunity to develop their understanding of core rules underpinning different sports - including netball, badminton, dance and basketball - while also learning and applying appropriate skills and movements.
Computing: The focus of work in computing over this half term is to be split between animation, logos and branching databases. During each session, children will be explicitly taught necessary skills and then apply them to their independent work.
PSHE: During this term, children will be looking at ways to keep themselves safe during their 'Safety First' unit before more on to look at 'VIPs' in the second half term.
Music: In the first half term, children will learn how to play the recorder with a designated music coach before switching their focus back to exploring the song 'Let Your Spirit Fly'.
MFL: In French, children will develop their skills in the subject language by looking at a range of core vocabulary before exploring more subject specific vocabulary later in the year.
