PE
Our PE programme develops fitness, skills, teamwork and enjoyment of sport across all year groups. Built around progression through a range of activities, it aims to keep pupils active, healthy and confident in movement, with opportunities to participate in both competitive and cooperative experiences.
Key focus areas
Fundamental movement and fitness: balance, coordination, ball skills, running, jumping and throwing to build a strong physical foundation.
Sport-specific skills: attacking, defending, shooting, passing, catching, dribbling, swimming, tennis, athletics, rounders, cricket, netball, basketball, badminton, tennis, and more.
Personal and social skills: teamwork, communication, resilience, fair play and leadership.
Wellbeing and inclusivity: age-appropriate activities that cater for all abilities; emphasis on safety, warm-ups, cooling down and injury prevention.
OAA and cross-curricular links: outdoor and adventurous activities to develop problem-solving, decision-making and collaboration.
Structure and delivery
Year groups: progression from Reception through to Year 6 with a clear, year-by-year plan
Terms: autumn, spring, and summer blocks featuring a rotating range of activities and units (e.g., dance, invasion games, net/wall games, striking/fielding, gymnastics, athletics, outdoor activities).
Assessment: ongoing formative assessment of skills, fitness, and participation; use of short activities and mini-competitions to track progress.
Extra-curricular and events
Opportunities to participate in school-wide wellbeing events and external sport sign-ups as part of the well-rounded approach to physical education.
