A very warm welcome to Year 1

In Year 1, your child will embark upon their first steps of the National Curriculum. As part of our transition from Reception, when the children first enter Year 1, they will still have the opportunity to play. They will be exploring and discovering their learning in a similar manner to reception until they are comfortable with their Year 1 environment. This transition has a positive impact on your child's wellbeing and will also support their development. As the year progresses, we slowly move the children towards a more structured style of learning, whilst still keeping the lessons, fun, engaging and interactive. Where we can, we try to bring our learning alive through themed days, trips and having visitors come in to carry out workshops. We can't wait to share some of our learning and experiences with you. 

PE

We have PE on a Monday. We have an indoor and outdoor session on this day. The children need to come dressed in their PE Kits. The children must have suitable footwear for outdoor PE and no earrings or jewellery are to be worn for this session. 

Homework and Reading Books

Homework Folders will be sent out every Friday and are to be sent back in by a Thursday so we have enough time to change reading books. In their folder, there will be a homework book, a reading book and a Dene's Dream Reading book. The Dream Read is to be shared and read to your child as a bedtime story. We encourage your child to read their Phonics reading book at least three times a week to improve fluency. Inside the folder, there is a reading record for you to fill in to let us know how often your child is reading. Please include in here any comments or any updates as to how your child is coping with reading at home. 

Class Dojo 

Each class has it's own class Dojo page where we will post regular updates about class actvities and any special events. You are also able to message us privately using this app. We will respond as quickly as we can regarding any querries you have.
