The Rights Respecting School Award is a UNICEF initiative based on the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Dene House Primary School is currently on a journey to become a Rights Respecting School (RRS).
Our children have a weekly rights respecting lesson that allows children to explore the various rights as outlined in the UNCRC.
By promoting a rights respecting ethos we aim to provide a safe, secure, caring environment where the children feel inspired to achieve to their full potential and smile while doing so.
As a Level 1 RRS we hope to provide children with the tools to be able to become active learners and caring citizens.
To further embed the articles of the UNCRC our school felt we needed a mascot that would be synonymous with children’s rights. All classes participated in the design of a school mascot. School Council discussed the entries and decided the final mascot ought to be a knight, defender of children’s rights.
You will find him on the UNCRC articles around our school – be sure to look out for him when you come to visit us.
Read our school newsletter to find out how you can support the school in promoting the rights of your child.
