Spring 1

What an amazing half term! We had lots of wonderful activities.

For our first three days back, we read "The Gruffalo" and created our own animal homes in the construction area. We created new self-portraits to update our display. We discussed all the parts of our bodies that needed included and then created our own self-portraits.

We then read "The Gruffalo's Child" and explored light and dark, investigating how shadows are created. We even delved into translucent, transparent, and opaque objects!

Learning about our bodies was so much fun! We spent lots of time understanding the different parts of our bodies and then explored the inside - discovering that we have bones and muscles to keep our bodies strong and moving. We even made peppermint creams (like Princess Pearl) that we loved. Zog ate these to help his sore throat!

Next, we learned about our organs and their functions, discovering fascinating facts like our brain being the same size as our fist.

While reading "Zog and the Flying Doctors," we learned about how to care for our bodies, emphasizing the importance of brushing our teeth and staying active. We explored healthy and unhealthy teeth, learning how to care for our bodies and teeth through eating healthy.

For mental health week, we participated in various activities to support our brains and had the chance to go to other classroom and have a new experience with the KS1 teachers. We did yoga, mindful colouring in, talking about our likes and dislikes as well as going to the forest and putting what we love in the cauldron. We learned about the importance of caring for our mental health and talking to someone we trust if we are worried.

We read "Paper Dolls" and made our own paper dolls, which we really enjoyed. We discussed how the little girl had grown up to have her own family and explored how we have grown and will continue to grow. We loved looking at our baby pictures and discussing how we have changed.

We had the best time celebrating Chinese New Year, learning all about the story behind it. We created Chinese lanterns and dragons, watched a Chinese New Year parade, and had a Chinese banquet. Everyone was amazing at trying all the new food, even exploring the spicy chili sauce.

Additionally, we explored the meaning of Valentine's Day this week, learning about St. Valentine, and made Valentine's cards for the people we love.

We are so excited for many more fun activities this term!
